When stuff in my life goes topsy turvy, like this week, I try to remember that God is in charge. The thing is, we just don't know what his plans for us are. So, this passage of the Bible has been playing itself in my head today. I just thought I would share it:

Ecclesiastes 3

1 There is a time for everything,
       and a season for every activity under heaven:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
       a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
       a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
       a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
       a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
       a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
       a time to be silent and a time to speak,

Hey, X! Why do you talk about God all the time?

Some of you might have noticed that I mention God in many places all through my space. "How come?", you might ask. Well, I like to talk about my favorite things on my space. As a born again Christian, my relationship with God is my very favorite thing.

My relationship with God is especially important to me since I've only believed in God for eleven years out of the over fifty years I have lived. I like my life much better now that I have Jesus in it.

Another of my favorite things is telling other people the reasons why I believe in God. Before I believed in God, I never knew that there were logical reasons why a logical person could believe that God exists. But, there are logical reasons to believe in God.

On my space, in the top corner, I have "My Motto". In part, it says:

"... Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have ..." from the Bible: 1 Peter 3:15.

I am always "prepared to give an answer" because I've compiled a website to do just that. I made my little website X-Evolutionist.com to talk specifically about "The Reasons Why I Believe in God".

In closing, I'm going to quote my favorite Bible verse:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1.

Linus steps up and says:

And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the lord shone round about them, and they were so afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not, for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you this day is born in the City of Bethlehem, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. Expelled the Movie - No Intelligence Allowed - With Ben Stein

I've recently heard of an upcoming documentary, "Expelled the Movie", and I am really looking forward to it. The subtitle of it is "No Intelligence Allowed". Check out the previews on their website, and you'll see why.

As for me, after believing the teaching on origins I received in school for decades, I finally found out there is no proof to what I was taught, just suppositions and conjecture. (more here)

True science is being suppressed. Anything that does not prove the preconceived "truth" is rejected.

Peer reviewed science journals do not accept anything against evolution. That's partly what this movie is about. Creationists are "Expelled" from the scientific community for trying to make their research known.

But, creationists have published a lot of things in peer reviewed journals on other topics. Creationists have to write books to publish their research about evolution and creation. I have a lot of these books on my Book List on my blog. It's these books that convinced me that God exists.

The truth is not decided by majority rule. The truth is decided by examining evidence, and this movie will show that the evidence is being suppressed. That is NOT science - That is indoctrination.

I applaud Ben Stein for putting his career on the line and going against the majority on this topic.

Is it unscientific to believe in God?

I didn't believe in God for many years. I believed what I heard: that life began by a process of time and chance and then developed further from there. I have since found out that there is very little justification for that.

I came to believe in God because I read a bunch of books that convinced me that the scientific evidence actually points towards the existence of God. Life is too incredibly complex to be a product of time and chance. I made a website that gives the justifications for my belief, plus a list of books with scientific evidence that God exists.

If you do not believe in God, do yourself a favor and see if you are right. Look and see if there is actual proof for what you have been led to believe about how life began.

I would like to recommend a book. Each chapter is by a different scientist who gives evidence of things that cannot be explained by purely physical means. You can read it online here:

Please give me the benefit of the doubt and take a few minutes and check out some of the essays in this book. I honestly believe that there is scientific evidence that God exists.

Most of the lyrics in this song are from the Bible, the third chapter of Ecclesiastes. King Solomon wrote pretty good lyrics, huh?

I've been thinking about this passage in the Bible after my parakeet Miss Piggy died (previous blog entry). Beady, her widowed mate, is adapting to being single. Ziggy, a female parakeet, has been making eyes at Beady. Ziggy has never had a special friend among the other parakeets in all the years I've had her. But, now that Beady is available, she keeps standing next to him. It's really cute! It looks like he might be interested eventually.

The Apostles' Creed

Shortly after I became a Christian I heard about The Apostles' Creed:

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,

born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,

My Favorite Books

A few years ago, I heard the line above in an old movie. It really relates to how I came to believe that there is a God. (Click here to read how I came to believe in God.)

These are some of the books I read that convince me that God exists. The great majority of the books on this list make extensive use of excerpts from published articles in peer reviewed science journals and other publications. Although most of the books are by Christians, these are not books that say "the Bible says it so it must be true". I believe in God because of the strong scientific case for His existence made in these books.

All of these books have a link to the amazon.com website so you can read the reviews and comments of others if you wish. Some of the books are available to be read online. Please see the end of this page for a list of books that may be read online.

The Answers Book by Ken Ham, et al Read The Answers Book Online
This book answers many common questions about creation. It answers questions about Cain's wife, dinosaurs, the origin of races and many more.

Bones of Contention by Marvin L. Lubenow
This book analyzes all of the hominid fossils. The appendix has a very detailed discussion of the dating of the fossil skull KNM-ER 1470. The science journal “Nature” is where the researchers published their research regarding this skull and their papers in “Nature” are quoted extensively. According to the many quotes from “Nature” it took a period of ten years to date this one fossil skull. This skull caused a big controversy in the scientific community and that’s why it took ten years for them to agree. This ten year process is detailed step by step using the words of the researchers, themselves. There were many dates given by the various radiometric dating techniques. The scientists could not agree on the “right” date of the many that were given by the various techniques. The author shows that a lot of the science related to the fossils and evolution is subjective.

Buried Alive by Jack Cuozzo
The author, an orthodontist, went all over Europe into the back rooms of the largest museums and examined actual fossil skulls of Neanderthals. Most museums only have cast copies of the skulls and most scientists have never seen a real one. He got permission to x-ray the skulls and there are pictures in the book. He shows that the skulls have been put together improperly with the jaw jutting out. Because of the belief in evolution the jaw has been put in a more ape like fashion in all Neanderthal skulls. Then, these improperly assembled skulls were copied and sent museums all over the world.

The Case for a Creator by Lee Strobel
The author was an atheist journalist. When his wife became a Christian he went all over the USA and interviewed scientists and others about why they believed in God. After a period of time he came to believe in God and became a Christian, too. This book has the interviews that convinced him. Two of the men he interviewed, Jonathan Wells (Icons of Evolution) and Michael Behe (Darwin’s Black Box), wrote books that are on this reading list. My story is similar to Strobel’s. I was so excited to see that God’s existence can be proven scientifically I made this website to tell others.

Darwin on Trial by Phillip E. Johnson
The author is a law professor who examines the evidence for evolution and determines whether it would hold up in a court of law.

Darwin’s Black Box by Michael J. Behe
The author is a biochemist at Lehigh University. He examines the cell close up and describes all of the inner workings. He compares the cell to a large city with food delivery and trash pickup. He coins the term “irreducible complexity” and concludes that life on earth was intelligently designed.

Darwin's Enigma by Luther D. Sunderland
In 1859, in the book Origin of the Species, Charles Darwin said: “Why, if species have descended from other species by insensibly fine gradations, do we not everywhere see innumerable transitional forms”. Now over 100 years later, Sutherland wrote letters to at the world’s largest museums and asked each one what fossils of transitional forms they had in their collections. None of the paleontologists had a fossil of a transitional form.

Dinosaurs by Design by Duane T. Gish, PhD
This book talks about all the major types of dinosaurs. It also talks about how dinosaurs fit in with creation, flood legends and dragon legends. It concludes that dinosaurs were created in the beginning with all other life. Dinosaurs were originally called dragons but started to die off after the flood and were rediscovered years later after people forgot about dragons.

The Encyclopedia of Animals by Dr. George McKay, et al
This book states that the evolutionary relationship of animals is based upon the classification of the animals. This book also states that the classification of animals is based upon the opinion of the classifier. In math class one learns that if A is equal to B and B is equal to C then A is equal to C. Therefore, the evolutionary relationship of animals is based upon opinion, not science. It is interesting to note that the person who invented the animal classification system, Carolus Linnaeus (1707-1778), was a creationist who listed the major types of animals that would have been on Noah’s Ark. It had nothing to do with evolution.

Evolution: The Fossils Still Say No! by Duane T. Gish
The author has a PhD in biochemistry. He publishes frequently in scientific journals. He examines the fossils and determines that each animal fossil is of a type of animal that still exists, mammal, bird, fish, etc. There is not the seamless progression of transitional fossils from one type to another that Charles Darwin said that his theory requires.

Fossils: Key to the Present by Richard B. Bliss, Gary E. Parker, Duane T. Gish
This book is a shortened version of the book Evolution: The Fossils Still Say No. When I read this book I still believed that evolution explained all life on earth. This is the first book I read when I finally agreed to read a book recommended to me by my creationist friends.

Icons of Evolution by Jonathan Wells, Jody F. Sjogren
This book talks about the supposed evidence for evolution as taught in text books. The author describes in detail the Miller-Urey experiment, Darwin’s tree of life, Darwin’s finches, the horse series, Haeckel’s embryos, peppered moths, and several other topics. This author is one of the men interviewed in the book above entitled The Case for a Creator

Genesis and the Decay of the Nations by Ken Ham
This book describes the effects that the belief in evolution has had on the world.

The Genesis Debate Edited by Ronald F. Youngblood
The format of this book is of a debate. It presents different sides of the issues of creation including the length of creation days, the age of the earth and the flood of Noah.

The Genesis Flood by John C. Whitcomb and Henry Morris
This book examines the possibility of the flood of Noah from a scientific viewpoint. Topics include flood geology, radiometric dating methods, paleontology and many others.

The Genesis Record by Henry M. Morris
This book is a verse by verse commentary on the entire Bible book of Genesis by a creationist who is a scientist.

The God Who is Real by Henry Morris
This is a very short but powerful little book written by a scientist. It gives many scientific reasons to believe in God. This is one of the first books I read about creation.

In Six Days: Why Fifty Scientists Choose to Believe in Creation Edited by John F. Ashton PhD.
Read "In Six Days" Online
This might be my favorite of all the books on this list. The editor compiled papers by fifty scientists. Each scientist gives the reasons why he believes that God created the universe, the earth, plants and animals in six days as the Bible book of Genesis describes. It has detailed scientific explanations. There is a sequel to this book entitled On the Seventh Day which is listed below.

In the Beginning: Compelling Evidence for Creation and the Flood by Walt Brown, PhD
The author has a Ph.D. from MIT. This book describes the evidence for creation in the life sciences and earth sciences. This entire book is available to read online in this website: In the Beginning: Compelling Evidence for Creation and the Flood

The Lie: Evolution by Ken Ham
This short book discusses holes in the evidence for the theory of evolution. It also talks about the effects the belief in evolution has on society.

Many Infallible Proofs by Henry M. Morris
This book has many scientific evidences for the belief in God. It discusses evidence for a world wide flood which caused the fossil record and the large amount of buried foliage that became gas, coal and oil. It has a chapter on The Bible and Science which lists things that were in the Bible before science knew about it, including the circulation of blood, the water cycle, the shape of the earth and the number of stars. The Bible verses for each are listed.

Men of Science/Men of God by Henry M. Morris
This fascinating book has biographies of founders of modern science who believed the Biblical creation. Biographies include da Vinci, Kepler, Pascal, Galileo, Brahe, Copernicus, Newton, Faraday, Babbage, Morse, Mendel, Pasteur, Kelvin, Lister and Carver. All these men were men of science but they all believed that in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Modern Science and an Ancient Text By Don Kopp
This book is written by somebody with a love of science who believed in evolution. He decided to look at the Bible with a scientifically critical eye. He says “if a book that old didn’t have anything supernatural going for it, scientific inquiry should be able to discover it.” He ended up believing that the Bible was true

On the Seventh Day Edited by John F. Ashton PhD.
This is the sequel to the book In Six Days discussed above. Forty scientists and academics explain why they believe in God

Origin by Design by Harold Coffin
This book has many evidences of the holes in the theory of evolution. Topics include fossil evidence and radiometric dating.

Origin of Species by Charles Darwin
I have made a separate page for this book. Surprisingly, Charles Darwin gives a lot of evidence against evolution. I have put some excerpts on this page. The Origin of Species

Origin of Life by Richard B. Bliss
This book shows the complexity of life, that it is much to complex to have happened by chance.

The Remarkable Record of Job by Dr. Henry Morris
This book is both a devotional and a scientific examination of the book of Job in the Bible. The book of Job talks both about the Ice Age and two types of dinosaurs.

Science and the Bible by Henry M. Morris
The author shows that, contrary to popular opinion, the Bible is compatible with science and gives many examples from both the biological and physical sciences.

Scientific Analysis of Genesis by Edward F. Blick
The author shows that the Bible book of Genesis is compatible with science.

Scientific Creationism by Henry M Morris, PhD
This author describes the physical and biolgical evidence used to support evolution and shows that it is more compatible with creation.

Weapons of our Warfare by Dr. John Morris, Doug Phillips, Esq.
This is a wonderful little book. It answers the twenty most common questions about creation. It has recently been republished under the title: "Straight Answers to Tough Questions" and is available from www.icr.com

Why Not Creation by Walter E. Lammerts
This book covers some of the most compelling arguments for creation and against evolution.

The World that Perished by John C. Whitcomb
This book is a scientific examination of the flood of Noah. It concentrates on the geological evidence with supports a massive, destructive worldwide flood.

The Young Earth by John D. Morris, PhD
The author, a geological engineer, describes the geological systems of the earth and shows that they have been made within thousands, not millions, of years.

The Resurrection

This coming Sunday is Easter. Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins and Easter is the day we celebrate that Jesus rose from the dead after three days. I am a born again Christian so Easter is a very special day to me.

Ever wonder why the date for Easter jumps all over the calendar from year to year? Here is why: Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Vernal Equinox. Now you know!

Shortly after I became a Christian I heard about The Apostles' Creed:

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian church,
the communion of saints,

Is it unscientific to believe in God?

If you do not believe in God, do yourself a favor and see if you are right. Look and see if there is actual proof for what you have been led to believe about how life began.

I would like to recommend a book. Each chapter is by a different scientist who gives evidence of things that cannot be explained by purely physical means.

In Six Days: Why 50 Scientists Choose to Believe in Creation

Please give me the benefit of the doubt and take a few minutes and check out some of the essays in this book. I honestly believe that there is scientific evidence that God exists.

I just heard that Dr. Henry Morris died on Saturday. Dr Morris is the major reason I am a Christian today. He was a wonderful man and an excellent teacher. I learned a lot from his books. His teachings will live on in his books.

Henry Morris was considered the “father” of the Modern Creation Movement, authoring well over sixty books on biblical creationism, scientific creationism, and commentaries on the Bible. His most recent work was the New Defenders Study Bible (released last month) which contains thousands of annotations in support of young-earth creationism.

Dr. Morris was a brilliant scholar and theologian who was used by God in many marvelous ways to launch and encourage the Modern Creation Movement on a global scale. But for those of us who had the privilege of working with Henry Morris, he was a gentle, humble, and faithful servant of God who modeled what it means to finish well as he consistently looked unto Jesus and ran with patience the race that was set before him (Hebrews 12:1–2).

Plans for a memorial service are being arranged for this Thursday (3/2/06) at Shadow Mountain Community Church. Please pray for the Morris family and the entire staff at ICR during this transition.
